Several years ago, I was living in Wisconsin and managing a technical support group for a large farm implement manufacturer. (My superhero disguise wasn't exactly clever. Everyone and their John Deere tractor could see through it.) I used writing to survive.

Eventually, I did something about it. One summer, I took some crash teaching courses and withstood student teaching in sweltering heat. I taught for five years in Brooklyn, then moved to Chicago. Since that time, I have worked at teaching and writing, not always in that order.
