Philosophy of Agriculture Education
Deciding what career path to take upon graduation may be a challenge for some people, but for me the choice was clear- agriculture education. Although I might not have always known that I would one day become an agriculture teacher, I have always loved agriculture in general. The choice to teach agriculture, believe it or not, came from my disdain of high school classes. During high school I did not look forward to school each day, to sitting through dull classes taking notes, but I did look forward to my agriculture classes. These classes were my only opportunity to actually take what I learned in class and apply it to real life situations. For most teachers, they are rarely given the opportunity to allow their students to take the lesson of the day and apply it to their lives at that moment in time, agriculture; however, is a different story. Ag teachers can take what students are learning in physics, geometry, and speech and apply it to activities such as building a trailer, nursing a sick animal, or even presenting a speech to a civic organization. It is because of these opportunities, chances to take lessons learned in the ag classroom as well as other classes, and apply it to the students lives that I believe agriculture education is an undeniable force in education today. Agriculture Education gives its’ students more than an average education, it instills a since of pride, leadership and responsibility in the students, a lesson that can never be forgotten.
