February 25, 2001 I have achieved little in terms of finding out anything about my Grandmother Closs, Mattie Moorheads family. Earlier entries at this site were referring to the "Morehead" family; but, according to Closs family relatives, I had been spelling the name incorrectly. They have been spelling it "Moorehead." However, last week, I discovered records of both my Grandfather, Tom Closs, and my Grandmothers family homesteads through the National Archives. I have yet to obtain a copy of the actual homestead record or "Dominion Land Grants" as they are called by the National Archives; but I do have an electronic record that clearly refers to my Great Grandfather as James Duncan Moorhead. This is a common spelling for the name and different both from the spelling I have used and that thought to be correct by the Closs family. Consequently, I have changed all site entries to reflect this new spelling. This revelation may help in finding additional records on the Moorhead family who came from Ontario, supposedly from the area near Armprior. If and when I am able to obtain them, I do plan to publish copies of the homestead records here. |
