SAT II Writing ~15 (timed essay - 20 mintes)
"My country, right or wrong' is a chauvinisitc and blind statement. This kind of view has given motive and justification for war criminals like Hitler to destroy so many peoples' lives in the history. In addition, in a current circumstance where people of multi races and cultures of so-called global community, a chauvinistic view will not only be intolerable, but also a hindrance to the advancement of society.
The world has suffered much from two world wars. In both cases, a major cause was the greed over land and the want to rule more of a few countries. For example, in Europe, Hitler was planning on making almost all Europe German territories. He could advance in his lunatic plan of warfare and anti-semitism becaus ethe German people gave consensus and further loyalty. Wtretched from teh abysmal post-WWI situations, they did not give a careful thought whether it was the right thing to do. WWII has effectively shown us how dangerous a blind-folded patriotism could be.
In the current society, one country can hardly survive on its own. It interacts with other nations according to international laws and hence mutually benefit. Given the current situation of the world, a view like "my country, right or wrong" will not be a constructive view, and could only stand in the way of advancement of society as a whole.
"My country, right or wrong" has been proved to be wrong both in the past and the present moment. Two notorious world wars caused by countries with such view, and the current necessary-for-survival interactions between countries for betterment of show how a such statement or a such view has not been propitious to the society, and never will be in the future.
