Charlie's Blog #21: A Historical Point of Reference, Rome and China

A Historical Point of Reference, Rome and China

Here is a historical point of reference about big events that were happening at the same time in two of the greatest empires the world has ever seen -- Rome and China.

In about 221 B.C., Ying Zheng, king of Qin, Conquered the then seven Chinese kingdoms and unified them into one Chinese empire. Thus he is recognized as the first Chinese Emperor. Then he built the Great Wall of China.

At around the same time in northern Italy, Hannibal was using his elephants to cause all kinds of trouble for the Romans in the Second Punic war.

Rome would not have an emperor for another two centuries. The Roman Colosseum would not be built until about 100 years after that. It was roughly 50 more years before Hadrian built his wall across England.

So there you go. A few more tidbits like that and I can make a big timeline wall chart showing all of the history of the world! Then I can illustrate it with a cartoon sphinx, and draw it looking as if its been smoking weed, and color it blue.
