Charlie's Blog #100!: My 100th post!

100!

a-hunnert!!This is my hundredth blog post! Wow! I can't believe I'm still doing this blogging thing! I'd like to thank my mom (hi mom!) and all the little people...who would be, um, me. My alternate personalities? You mean the voices?? Yeah, them. Thanks!

Speaking of voices, when I was reading about how to meditate, the author (Jack Kornfield) described at some length the things our conscious minds constantly do, that we may not really be aware of. For example, we may have a near constant voice in the back that says things like, "I'm hot. I'm cold. I'm uncomfortable. I'm itchy. I'm hungry. I'd rather be somewhere else." More interesting though is that we are constantly telling ourselves stories. I certainly am anyway. An ongoing chatter of making plans, reviewing memories at random, composing how to say what we want to say to someone, and thinking of what we should have said. Thinking out what to say in invented future conversations that will probably never happen. The stream of chatter also includes all of our favorite things, what we saw, heard, and did yesterday, things friends or anyone else said, snippets of our favorite songs, and pieces of what we saw on TV or the internet the other day. It can be fascinating just to stand back and watch all the thoughts that go by in your mind while engaged in any routine, non-thinking activity, like walking or mowing the lawn for example. There seems to be so much more going on in our minds than we really notice -- and I mean our conscious minds, I'm not even talking about the unconscious. It seems the mind never stands still. Of it's own accord anyway.

Pondering this, I realized I really spent a lot of time replaying in my mind the cool special effects scenes from various science fiction movies and shows I liked. Usually the ships firing the big guns or doing fancy maneuvers. Just writing that line makes me recall Babylon 5 -- the wild maneuvers the Starfuries did and The Shadows slicing up things with their purple beam "primary weapons". Geesh. That's embarrassing to admit! :-o

But I really don't do that so much anymore because the time is now taken up instead with composing ten thousand blog posts that you never saw! I think out what I want to say, rework the wording, get it just right, and then either forget it before I ever get a chance to write it down, or decide it really is waaayyy too boring to waste your time with! :-)

So I'd like to dedicate this, my 100th post, to the ten thousand posts that never actually got written. The ten thousand posts I got all thought out, only to have them sublimate into memory, to be mentally recycled, with only a fragment left here and there with the potential to re-emerge and be incorporated into a post that actually does get written.

When I thought of all this today, walking back to the office after lunch, I thought yeah, I have to write this one.
