Welcome to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. "The City that
Care Forgot" with "The Greatest Free Show on Earth".
Mardi Gras goes back several centuries to when the
Catholic Church set a fixed date for Christmas, but
moveable dates for other religious holidays. Easter
is set to coincide with the first Sunday after the
full moon that follows the Spring Equinox. Equinox
is the time when the sun crosses the equator, making
night and day of approximate equal length all over
the earth. Easter can fall on any Sunday between
March 23 and April 25. Mardi Gras is then scheduled
47 days before Easter and can occur on any Tuesday
from February 3 through March 9. Go here for future
Mardi Gras Dates.
More than 70 parades are held during the Carnival
season in a four-parish area around New Orleans.
The best-known parades include Bacchus, Endymion,
Orpheus, Zulu and Rex. For schedules, see my Parade
Calendar Here.
"Wat Tis Dat" is a glosary of Mardi Gras. This page
will tell you just about everything you would want
or need to know about Mardi Gras
To see a little of the "Greatest Free Show On Earth",
you can view a few Pictures on this page. I have but
one link for Mardi Gras. I think you will enjoy
Inside New Orleans. This site is very informative
and will keep you updated on all the events in New
Orleans. "Laiscez les bon temps rolez". Let the
good times roll.

Why not pay Pam Kersten a visit. It is her Mardi Gras
