Students will be introduced to various equipment used in surveying works. Topics studied include prismatic compass surveying, leveling, theodolite and setting out. 2.0 OBJECTIVES At the end of the course, students should be able to:- a. taught on the theory and practice of varies surveying works applicable to civil engineering. b. set up and operate varies surveying equipments. c. interpret readings taken with varies surveying equipments. 3.0 METHODS Lecture Tutorials 4.0 CONTENT ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NO. TOPICS LECTURE HOURS ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.0 Introduction 2 hours Introduction to broad aspect of surveying works and its application to civil engineering.Introducing to varies equipments in surveying. 2.0 Prismatic Compass Surveying 4 hours Bearing, traverse surveying, error and plotting. 3.0 Levelling 7 hours Principles of leveling, form of booking reduction, error distribution, forsight, intermediate and backsight leveling, longitudinal and tranverse leveling, contouring, calculation of cut and fill in earthworks, use of sight rails and boring rods. 4.0 Theodolite 7 hours Principles, technique of using theodolite, traverse, method of booking, determination and distribution of error 5.0 Setting Out 8 hours Circular, transition and vertical curves. Masshaul in earthwork and principle of planimeter.
