Real Name: Unknown
The Impostor is one of the strangest characters to ever come out of the Backyard Brawlers Association. No one knows his real name, where he came from, or even what his face looks like. He wares long black draping clothes, and dons an eerie black and white mask under a hood.
He made his surprise debut during Friday Night Destruction in September of 2000. It was a 4-way battle royal for the #1 Contendership of the BBA Title between The Arch Angel, The Meteor, Crazy Joe, and Bucktooth Willy. A creepy song blared over the speakers of the Dixon House of Pain, and out came The Impostor. He Chokeslammed all four participants, and eliminated them all to become the #1 Contender.
The very next show was a scheduled World Title match where Calypso defended against The Arch Angel. It is apparent that Impostor wasn't pleased that his World Title shot wouldn't come until later. Calypso had the match won, but when the referee was knocked out Impostor interrupted the match. He dragged Bucktooth Willy to the ring by a belt around his neck. Impostor gave both Calypso and Arch Angel a Chokeslam. Impostor then placed Arch Angel on Calypso while the referee crawled back into position for the three count. Impostor cost Calypso his second World Heavyweight Title reign, thus giving the Arch Angel his first in controversial fashion. Later in the show, Impostor was defeated by C-X in a 3-on-1 handicap match.
The Impostor was not done with his rampage however. Another Friday Night Destruction saw Impostor battle Calypso in an "Old Fashion Brawl" that went to a no contest. In this match, Impostor used a spray-can and a lighter to burn the face of Calypso. It was quite apparent that The Impostor was unlike any other BBA Brawler they had seen. It was then announced that Impostor had been revoked of his World Title shot, and would instead referee the World Title match at Please Forgive Me.
The Impostor didn't appear at the next couple of shows, beginning a rumor that he had been suspended from BBA. The PPV, "Please Forgive Me", rolled around a couple of weeks later, and The Impostor made his return...or did he? The "Please Forgive Me" main event was Arch Angel defending the World Title against Calypso, with The Impostor as the special guest referee. Earlier in the PPV former BBA wrestler, Big Tub of Fat, announced to Calypso that he was going to unmask The Impostor. Calypso said if he could find out who it was by the end of the night, then he would award B.T.O.F. the job of BBA Commissioner. Impostor looked a little different in this match, but nothing incredibly noticeable. He would surprisingly call this match right down the middle, leading to speculation if this was the real Impostor or an actual impostor. Thanks to interference from Bucktooth Willy and The Meteor, Calypso was able to pick up the win and win back the World Title. After the match, Calypso tried to shake Impostor's hand, but Impostor pulled him back and nailed the Chokeslam. Impostor pulled off his mask to reveal it was Big Tub Of Fat. BTOF apparently was Impostor's impostor. It is unknown to this date if B.T.O.F. had been Impostor all the weeks prior to this incident, but it is widely believed that this was a one night thing. B.T.O.F. used Impostor's costume/gimmick to propel himself to the top of the BBA as BBA Commissioner.
The REAL Impostor seemed to vanish. He didn't appear at shows for the rest of the regular 2000 season, and it was apparent that he was either suspended or fired. All these rumors came to rest over the 2000-2001 off season. Calypso & Meteor were scheduled to do BBA LiveWire, but Calypso was late. As Meteor began looking for Calypso, The Impostor emerged from the basement of the Dixon House of Pain. Meteor went downstairs to check, and found Calypso bleeding on the ground. Another BBA LiveWire saw Meteor get attacked by Impostor in the basement (while Calypso had also been beaten up again). Arch Angel tried to put an end to this, but Impostor got to him too.
The beginning of the 2001 BBA season saw Impostor returned to regular action. He would eventually become a World Title contender, but never seem to be able to pick up the big win against the likes of The Arch Angel and Calypso. He was however, involved in the controversial three-way Over-The-Top-Rope title match with Calypso and Arch Angel. The title was vacated after Calypso and Arch Angel appeared to be eliminated at the same time. The next week, the vacated World Heavyweight Championship would be between Calypso and Impostor, in which again the Impostor came up short.
2001 was not a completely disappointing year for the Impostor, as he did manage to pick up other important milestones. Earlier in the event when the World Title was vacated, The Impostor won the vacant Hardcore Championship against former Hardcore Champ, M80. In a time when the Hardcore Title changed hands frequently, Impostor managed to hold on to the championship for an entire month before finally bowing out to M80. His dominance in the Hardcore division put a notch in the belt of the Impostor.
As the year wore on, Impostor was involved in a feud with newcomer, Firestarter. Firestarter was awarded the World Television Championship when then-champion, Bucktooth Willy, no-showed their title match. Much to the dismay of the Impostor, Firestarter had a speech prepared in which he thanked Holy Shit. Well, he said holy shit only because The Impostor had snuck up behind him and delivered the Chokeslam on the newly crowned World Television Champion. The two would face off for that very title in their next encounter, in which The Impostor dethroned Firestarter quickly. Impostor would hold on to the title until "Backyard Assault", where he lost it to the underdog Calypso in a match-of-the-year caliber match.
Impostor would return to the World Title division during the reign of "The Franchise" John Hanley. In a time where the BBA was dominated by the OWF Invaders and The Icons, Calypso had been outnumbered on many occasions. During this time, Calypso and Viper would team up against Real Deal Rob and Hanley. However as Viper proved to be too unreliable for Calypso, he would need additional help. After facing off in a #1 Contenders Match, Calypso and Impostor would be ambushed by The Icons (RDR & Franchise) after Hanley put his title on the line against the already tired Calypso and won. Despite the odds stacked against Calypso & Impostor, they were able to get the upper hand in a brawl that saw the former enemies shake hands and align.
Impostor was scheduled to fight Viper and The Franchise in a Triple-Threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship at "New Year's Nightmare", but the show was ended early due to the violence of RDR/Calypso's epic battle.
Once again, The Impostor vanished again. Many believe that he was upset about never receiving his World Championship opportunity at NYN. He would return in the spring of 2002, but never seemed the same again. It seems that Impostor was passed his prime, as it was becoming problematic for him to win matches.
He became involved in a feud with Above Average Angelo in Impostor's last streak of wins for his career. He would defeat him a couple of times, until they faced off at the PPV. Impostor became a stepping stone for future stars. At "Realm of Champions", Impostor was defeated by Above Average Angelo as their feud reached the boiling point. The new initiative of "No Touch" in reference to BBA Officials affected the Impostor negatively. As Impostor lost more and more matches, he eventually snapped and Chokeslammed a referee. As a result, he was suspended.
After being out of action for the end of spring and beginning of summer, it looked like we might never see The Impostor again. However, he returned in mid 2002 to almost no fan-fare. BBA Commissioner tried to recruit him to join the Next Generation cX, but Impostor initially refused. As "punishment" Savage put him in a World Title match against M80, and again Impostor refused. As cX eventually lost key members in Crazy Joe and Firestarter, Impostor would eventually join on. Impostor was never really given a chance in the new cX, as the BBA as a company had begin to fold towards the end of 2002.
At the final BBA PPV in 2003, "Realm of Champions II", Impostor would team up with fellow masked wrestler in Flawless as they would take on the team of M80 and Triple A. While Flawless & Impostor's accomplishments were not as great as their opponents reigns as Undisputed World, World Television, Intercontinental, Hardcore, and Lightweight Champions, they sure as hell looked like they could. In what BBA Chairman Craig Dixon claims is the best tag-team match in BBA history, Impostor & Flawless fell short to M80 & Triple A in a classic bout. Even though he was pinned by M80 after the Flipping Leg Drop, Impostor showed that he was still capable of great things despite the decline in success over the course of 2002.
