Godsmack - I Stand Alone

Backlash Brady arrived on the scene late in the stint of the BBA. He made his debut in the summer of 2002 against Rich Field. Rich Field came out on top due to the outside interference by Rich Field's associate, Chuck Fury. Although he was not the victor, Backlash seemed destined for success with his smash mouth style of wrestling.

Brady would languish in the low-card matches for his first couple of events, losing some and winning some with his devastating Death Valley Driver. His opportunity, however, was going to come very shortly. During that summer, cX had reformed and taken over the BBA once again. They became obsessed with power, especially their leader in Calypso. Looking for a "day off", Calypso inserted the rather unknown Backlash as his opponent for the event. It was dubbed the "Chance Of A Lifetime" match for Backlash. Calypso took this match lightly and Backlash made him pay for it. Even though Calypso came out on top after the lengthy battle, he had to lock in the Walls Of Calypso to do it. Backlash nearly topped the biggest name in the BBA.

From that day on, cX was a permanent target for Brady. In his PPV debut at "Hotter Than Hell", Backlash Brady would defeat cX member Crazy Joe soundly. Fellow cX member Mike Savage was trying to aide Crazy Joe by giving him a chair. Savage slid the chair a little out of Joe's reach, right into the hands of Backlash. He used it to his advantage to win the match. That match is very significant, as Crazy Joe was the only cX member to be defeated. The speculation began after the PPV about future of cX.

cX kicked out Crazy Joe due to his poor performance, and fired him in the process. cX was looking to fill the void with Backlash and Firestarter (who shook hands with Calypso after their lengthy battle). After a long verbal debate, Backlash made it clear that the chemistry between Savage and himself was merely coincidental and that he would never join cX. Firestarter wound up joining and taking out Brady in the meeting. Brady would continue to feud with other cX members in M80, Calypso, Mike Savage, & Firestarter. In a United States Championship match against the favored Calypso, Backlash shocked the world when he defeated the Man, the Myth, the Legend and won his very first championship.

As cX began to become fan favorites, Backlash Brady shifted his focus from cX to defending his U.S. Heavyweight Championship. He wrestled in several variations of tag-team matches, triple threats, fatal four ways with big man Dan "The Man" Alban, newcomer Jason Christopher, and the returning "Franchise" John Hanley. At the PPV "Total Carnage", Backlash was scheduled to take on Jason Christopher in a singles match, but "The Franchise" added himself as the match was about to begin. In addition to the U.S. Championship being on the line, an opportunity for the World Heavyweight Title was awarded to the victor of several of the PPV's matches. Unfortunately for Brady, the rising superstar in Jason Christopher won the match, the United States Championship, and a spot in the main event.

Despite the fact that he lost his United States Championship, Backlash Brady never floundered in the BBA again. He continued to impress and improve his game with every given week. Unfortunately, as his confidence and skill were growing, the BBA was dwindling down to it's "Final Approach". At the final PPV "Realm of Champions II", Backlash would attempt to win the Hardcore Championship in an Invitational Battle Royal. Much like his previous PPV appearance, Backlash was thwarted by "The Franchise" John Hanley, who eliminated him.

Backlash Brady may not have had the most technical style, but he was one of the better late bloomers during the BBA's tenure. His constant efforts to improve and his instinct of sticking up to cX is what BBA fans will remember him for most. His variety of signature moves help staple him in the minds of everyone who witnessed him wrestle. Whether it was his high-flying, Mick Foley like diving elbow drop, the explosive Alley-Oop Powerbomb, or the devastating DVD; Backlash Brady was a force to be reckoned with in the Backyard Brawlers Association.
