In 1987, a national sampling survey revealed that the population with visual, hearing, physical, mental impairments as well as mental illness accounts for 5% of the total population in China.

China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) was established on March 15, 1988; headquartered in Beijing.

Mr. Deng Pufang, Chairman of CDPF received numerous of international awards in recognition of China's contributions to the World Disability Movement.
