AN-RAX

After the introduction of V 5.2 protocol, we are able to provide better service in the very rural areas of our country. Access network is a new design developed by C-DOT for the inter working of C_DOT 256 RAX exchanges. This way we eliminate one node in the switching network and call processing efficiency is improved, and net result our call success rate is improved.

  • The local exchange can be of any switch (EWSD, OCB, 5ESS, or C-DOT).
  • The Local Exchange should support V5.2 protocol.

This is being developed by C-DOT and this AN-RAX is working fine with all other types of Local Exchanges other than C-DOT Switches. In C-DOT switches 2_2_1_6 software is to be installed for having 14 links in a VU BM. We are facing one or two minor problems in the maintenance of these AN-RAX.

Though the technology is same, multiple venders are supplying the equipments and at times certain hardware compatibility problem and timing problems occur which causes instability.

CDOT has come out with a better solution in 2_2_1_6 7.7 software and the AN-RAX are functioning beautifully.

Here are some tips for the better working of the AN-RAX with C-DOT switches.

  • Release13 version EPROMs are available for ARC CARDS in the AN-RAX. Prom location in U2 and U20 are to be up graded.

  •  A Trunk BM should be dedicated for VU working only in the Local Exchange.

  • 7 AN links in case of 2_2_1_4 and 14 links in case of 2_2_1_6 s/w release is possible and the spare DTKs in the VU BM need not be equipped.

  • MFC Card: If HMS card is used in the TS mother board, a ECN should be done in the AFB card, and then all the 4 MFC cards can be equipped in the BM. If MSC/MSD cards are used in the TS mother board equip only 3 MFC cards in the VU BM.

  • Create all ‘dtmf’ circuits in the MFC cards and create all the subscribers in the AN-RAX as ‘dtmf’ subs and convert all the instruments in the subs premises for tone working.

  • Check the jumper setting at IFC card (SSM, ESL,PSM,ESM)

  • Use only SPC cards in the AN-RAX. It is not advised not to have ISP cards in the AN-RAX.

  • The DTK at 21st slot of ti13 in the VU BM should not be used and kept spare only.

  • These are my practical observations, and felt in the field.
