From: Edward Frew

Hi everyone, the survey is finally finished. Thankyou very much to everyone
who voted, there were 32 voters (including me) by the deadline which is a
quite good turnout and makes the results have some relevance and accuracy.
Thanks again to everyone involved, Edward.

THE GOD MACHINE + SOPHIA MAILING LIST
                                SURVEY 1997
********************************************************************************

Q1. Favorite Album:

1: "Scenes From the Second Storey" - 25 Votes
2: "One Last Laugh in a Place of Dying" - 7 Votes

Well, on the last survey I was the only person who voted for 'One last laugh..'
so it seems we have either gained a few fans of it or more people now own the
album. A good question which could have been on the survey would have been:
Do you own 'one last laugh..'? because a few people meantioned that they
didn't and that they would like to.

********************************************************************************

Q2. Favorite Songs:

1: IT'S ALL OVER - 21 Points
2: Seven - 20 Points
3: Pictures of a Bleeding Boy - 19 Points
4: The Desert Song - 18 Points
5: Purity - 15 Points
6: Ego - 12 Points
7: Dream Machine - 11 Points
7: The Blind Man - 11 Points
7: Home - 11 Points
7: Boy By The Roadside - 11 Points
8: In Bad Dreams - 8 Points
8: The Hunter - 8 Points
9: Painless - 7 Points
10: The Train Song - 5 Points
11: The Tremelo Song - 2 Points
11: The Flower Song - 2 Points
11: I've Seen the Man - 2 Points
11: She Said - 2 Points
11: All My Colours - 2 Points
11: Prostitute - 2 Points
12: Out - 1 Point
12: Commitment - 1 Points
12: 'Hypocrite' (Live and Unreleased) - 1 Point

OK, the voting system worked by your first preference getting 3 points, your
second 2 points and your third 1 point. These results were very, very close,
so although 'it's all over' won, I think the top 4 can all be blocked
together and called our favorite songs. A few people distinguished between
versions of
songs (in particular: 'The Desert Song' and 'The Blind Man') but I took them
all as one song because it would have got a bit complicated.

********************************************************************************

Q3. Least Favorite Song:

1: None - 8 Votes
2: The Sunday Song - 7 Votes
2: Temptation - 7 Votes
3: Home - 3 Votes
4: Fever - 2 Votes
5: The Train Song - 1 Vote
5: Seven - 1 Vote
5: The Life Song - 1 Vote
5: Evol - 1 Vote
5: The Tremelo Song - 1 Vote

Well, this Question was a bit silly, but I think it was also interesting to
see that 4 of 'our' least favorite songs were also 4 of 'our' most favorite!
Obviously some people said they have no least favorite and that all GM songs
are good which shows them as 'true fans' etc. but I think that there are a
couple of bad songs and they were basically represented here.

********************************************************************************

Q4. Favorite Lyric:

1: "Why do all the things have to change..
just when they mean the most?" - 3 Votes

1: "And she said life could be painless
    I'm sorry but that's not what I've found" - 3 Votes

2: 'I stand dead in the center with nothing at all' - 2 Votes

The rest have 1 Vote

3: "Cut myself cause I can't see the beauty,
feel myself because I can't see the light,
tell myself that I do not deserve this,
tell myself that I do not deserve this,
    i'm just a simple man"
3: "It always happens that way"
3: "Ego is beast, Ego is Evil"
3: "Oh, what do you do when you feel like you're living a lie?"
3: "If I show you the pain, will you show me the Purity?"
3: "i can't find my way to heaven"
3: "If I show you my scars, will you show me yours.
3: "I wanna go where the sun goes...
3: "I wish I could fly ... so I could fly away but
come back again and again ..."
3: "Did you ever hold something precious and know that it was eventually
going to die."
3: "All the bad things, that all the bad things, are in my mind"

This question was the most misunderstood question but that was my fault because
I didn't explain it properly. A lot of people put song names as favorite
songs lyrically which is a fair enough answer but I was looking more for
particular lyrics. Because of this error though, I just split the results up:

1: Boy by the roadside - 2 Votes
The rest have 1 Vote
2: It's all over
2: Pictures of a bleeding boy
2: Seven
2: Purity
2: In bad dreams
2: I've Seen the Man
2: All of 'Scenes...'
2: Painless

3 People either didn't have a favorite lyric or didn't vote for one.

********************************************************************************

Q5. Favorite Band Member:

1: Robin Proper-Sheppard - 16 Votes
2: None/All - 10 Votes
3: Ronald Austin - 3 Votes
4: Jimmy Fernandez - 2 Votes
5: Hate them all - 1 Vote :)

This Question was the most controversial but... I think that it has its
merits. A lot of people put reasons why the member they voted for was their
favorite, such as 'I like the drumming/singing/bass playing/guitar playing'
or 'I like Robin because he continues making good music' etc. and although
everyone likes the band as a whole, not as individuals, it is fine to point
out particular aspects of the music you like, and for me, this makes the
question one worth
putting in.

********************************************************************************

Q6. E.P's/Promos

1: None - 20 People
2: Home E.P (CD) - 10 Owners
3: Desert Song E.P (CD) - 7 Owners (Why can't I get one then!)
4: Ego E.P (CD) - 5 Owners
5: Home 7" - 4 Owners
6: Purity E.P (12") - 3 Owners
6: Lost Weekend Compilation feat. 'Pics of a bleeding boy' - 3 Owners
6: Ego E.P (12") - 3 Owners
6: Desert Song E.P (12") - 3 Owners
7: Home 4 Song Polygram Promo - 2 Owners
8: Home E.P (12") - 1 Owner
8: Home 3 song Polygram Promo - 1 Owner
8: Hybrid Compilation feat. 'Home'? - 1 Owner
8: Glastonbary Comp. feat. 'She said' - 1 Owner
8: Ego T-Shirt - 1 Owner
8: Promo Post Cards and Stickers - 1 Owner

Some people neglected to include formats so I presumed they were CD versions.
I was very suprised that there are so many people with copies of this stuff
when they are all so hard to find. Remember though, that if you ever see
something which you already have, offer it to everyone else on the list
because a lot of people are looking for the E.P's/Promos.

Also, does anyone know when their last live show was? It would have been
close to that Switzerland show, I'd think but I was wondering if there were
any others.
