| Dragons are beasts usualy associated with the European medieval peroid of time. They were a sign of courage and bravery. If you were to have killed a dragon you would be held in high honor of the people. Noone knows for sure if dragons really did exist. Many scientists believe that medieval people discovered dinosaur bones and thought they were creatures that were alive then. Dragons can also be associated with the Asian culture. The year 2000 was the year of the Dragon. In the Chinese culture the five clawed dragon represented the emperor. It was a being associated with power, magic, and loyalty. Many jade statues are made each year along with artwork from the Chinese lands. People today still respect and uphold the belief in dragons in the Eastern world. The dragon has even made it's mark in Greek mythology. In the tale of Jason and the Argonaughts, Jason had to battle Cadmus the dragon to obtain the golden fleece. Disney has even put it's mark on this being by using it in many of it's movies. Pete's Dragon is a fun-loving and caring dragon, while the dragon in Sleeping Beauty accompanys the witch and is an evil beast. Anciect mapmakers drew dragons at the edges of their maps to denote unknown territory and explorers took this quite literally, venturing no further. Dragons are also assiciated with legends with mazes, spirals, labyrinths, and hills, coiling around or within them. |

| Dragons of the Directions and Elements East: Air: The Dragon ruler is Sairys (sair'-iss). The color is pure yellow. Positives: Sunrise, spring, incense, the wand, gong or bell, clouds, breezes, breath, optimism, joy, intelegence, mental quickness, renewing, and any kind of helpful air. Negatives: Frivolity, gossip, fickleness, inattention, bragging, forgetfulness, windstorms, tornados, hurricanes, distructive air in any form. South: Fire: The Dragon ruler is Fafnir (faf'-near). The color is pure red. Positives: Noon, summer, the dagger and sword, candles, incense burner, and kind of helpful fire, the sun, blood, enthusiam, activity, change, passion, courage, daring, will power, leadership. Negatives: Hate, jealousy, fear, anger, war, ego, conflicts, lightning, volcanoes, harmful fire of any kind. West: Water: The Dragon leader is Naelyan (nail'-yon). The color is pure blue. Positives: Sunset, autum, the water chalice, and form of helpful water, compassion, pracefulness, forgiveness, love, intuition, calmness, peace of mind. Negatives: Floods, rainstorms, whirlpools, and kind of harmful water, laziness, indifference, instability, lack of emotional control, insecurity. North: Earth: The Dragon leader is Grael (grail). The color is clear, dark green. Positives: Midnight, winter, the wine chalice, ritual salt, dragon bowl, gem bowl, dragon mirror, gemstones, mountains, caves, soil, respect, endurance, responsibility, stability, prosperity, throughness, purpose in life. Negatives: Rigidity, unwillingness to change or see another side if a problem, stubborness, lack of conscience, vacillation, earthquakes, slides. White (light) and Black (dark) rule the center of the circle and balance all the other elements. |
