This is one of the most beautiful amplifiers you will ever see. Massive in construction and physical size. The lettering on the glass plate is designed to catch the light from within the glass.  This is done by blocking all the refelected light from the face. The lamps shine down through the glass edge. The ambient light is blocked by two thin foam seals. These deteriorate to dust over time and the ones here were no exception. The degraded foam strips let stray ligth scatter accross the face... wrecking the effect. One seal is attached to the glass plate, the other is attached to the metal retainer that runs the length of the face. I looked all over the web to find the type of foam required for this. A low density, open celled foam that compresses compeletely flat. Most foams are closed cell and have limits to how far they will compress without excessive pressure. Finally, I found it... right at my local hardware store. An inexpensive weather stripping, complete with an adhesive backing. All I had to do was cut the width and length needed. An Exacto knife and a straight-edge produced almost exact replacments.  It worked like a charm...
Bland lettering when off, but when you switch the amp on... WOW... bright gold lettering jumps out!!!

Light arrangment from back of pannel, Two for each meter, and two center lights for glass illumination...
