Beadwork by Chris Simon

Made by Chris for Judith Made by Judith for Chris
These two bags are the result of an Internet swap. The basic idea is that you make something for someone and they make something for you. In this case, Judith and I have never met except through a mailing list of which we're both members. There was a discussion on the mailing list about what colors people have trouble working with. It was nearly unanimous that people have problems working with orange. So the Orange Swap was born. The requirement was that you make something that was at least 50% orange. Everyone who wanted to participate was assigned a partner and given about 2 months to make their gift. The bag on the left was my gift to Judith. The one on the right was her gift to me.
Beaded crochet
This bag was made using size 11 seed beads and Perle cotton. I learned the technique for crocheting with beads from my friend and fellow Dallas Bead Society member Bonnie Brooks.
Black net bag
This little bag was made using instructions in the April 1998 issue of Bead and Button magazine.

Green heart necklace
This necklace was made in a class taught by another of my Dallas Bead Society friends, Kirsten Koepsel. The heart is made of velveteen, with bead embroidery worked on the front, then the heart is stuffed with quilt batting and sewn together around the edges with seed beads. The strap is a spiral rope which I just happened to have finished days before the class where I made the heart.

Gold wire necklace
My first love is wirework. This is a necklace that I made to wear to my sister's wedding a couple of years ago. Definitely not a great scan. I'll have to rephotograph this one soon so that you can see how much better it looks in real life. You might not even be able to tell that it's made of 14K gold-filled wire.
