PRIEST STEAMS PREACHER'S DAUGHTER

Tempe 80, Cleveland 58

Unlike the 2003 04 CDFL season, the Cleveland Steamers begin this year with an opening week loss. The Steamers who were impressive in the first half of last year, came out flat against the new and improved Tempe Tantrums.

Originally reports trickled in that Cleveland was dismantling the Tantrums, however due to a scorers error, those reports proved false. In fact it was Tempe that was having its way with the Steamers and their young GM Andi Fox.

The Steamers had a fantastic day from running back Quentin Griffin, but that is all they could muster against the bruising Tantrum D. Tempe made Cleveland quarterback Rex Grossman look like, well, Rex Grossman as he set the Steamers back 1 points.

Meanwhile, the Tempe offense looked impressive in posting 80 points this week. The ground game dominated for the Tantrums as newly acquired running back Priest Holmes led all scorers with 25 points. Second year RB Dominick Davis proved to be a running as well as a receiving threat as he put up 15.

Cleveland will need either a better starter than Grossman or a rapid improvement if they want to taste post season glory for the second time in as many years. Next week doesnt get any easier as Cleveland travels to take on another high scoring team, the 0-1 Martins Ferry Steelers who will be hungry for a win after a new miss in Week 1. Tempe looks steam roll the Moscow Maulers in week 2.
