HORNED DOGS DINE ON ESCARGOT

Alvada 66, Central Ohio 35

In the Week 1 Game of the week, one team was thought to be on a two season upward trend, while another was spiraling in the opposite direction. The 2003-04 runner up Central Ohio Snails put together an impressive lineup during the pre-season draft and earned a prediction of league champion contenders. The former champs, the Alvada Horned Dogs struggled last season and received a harsh review from CDFLInsider. Alvada, having traded their number 1 player before the game looked to be little match for the powerful Snails. Sometimes appearances can be deceiving.

The Snails offense looked lethargic all afternoon against the Alvada defense. Central Ohios Quarterback Brad Johnson could get nothing done and put up 1 point. The wide receivers dropped pass after pass. The ground game was no existent. The Snails turned to tight end Randy McDaniel who put up good receiving numbers and a score, but eventually fumbled himself. McDaniel tallied 9, which was more than any other skilled position player. The star of Central Ohios team this day was kicker Adam Vinatieri, who knocked in 10. When you have to depend on your kicker, you are not going to fare well. And the Snails did just that.

Alvada, unlike its adversary, had a good day from quarterback Chad Pennington. Chad threw for a touchdown, kept the turnovers at bay and added 16 points to the Horned Dogs point total. Receiver Chad Johnson contributed 10 with a score. The stumping defense of the Seahawks scored 15 points in addition to having its way with Central Ohio. Those three contributors were enough themselves to defeat the entire Snail team. In the end it was an impressive win for the Horned Dogs of Alvada.
