Gone are the days when GM Ed Rollins drafted players that are retired or injured. Well, almost. The selection of RB Priest Holmes does raise some eyebrows, but it could a late season insurance policy for star RB Larry Johnson.
The starters on this season Maulers are good - Larry Johnson should have a break-out season. Donovan McNabb should bounce-back from an injury plaqued season. The Giants are predicted to do well with Shockey, Burress and the defense major contributors. Rookie LenDale White could get plenty of goal-line opportunities which may be the difference in a few games.
The weakness of the Maulers is its depth. QB Donovan McNabb is coming off injury. The backup is Brett Favre who may or may not have anything left in the tank. Behind him, Billy Volek who may or may not win the Titans starting job. While loading up on RB, the receiver position is weak. During the bye week or if the injury bug creeps up, only Andre Johnson is left on the bench. The backup to oft-injured Jeremy Shocker is unproductive. The Maulers do have excess at the kicker position. Perhaps a deal for receiving is in the works?
Despite the lack of depth, the Maulers should be able to do well as long as their starters are in and healthy. Probably well enough to return to the playoffs.
