Philosophy Statement

Learning is an ongoing process; it starts when children begin to explore their environment as infants and continues for the rest of their lives.  When children enter school they bring different experiences, knowledge, and cultures with them. As an educator it is my responsibility to incorporate students’ prior knowledge and experiences with learning goals. To facilitate an environment that promotes autonomy, interaction, and choice, by using a variety of instructional strategies to respond to all students diverse needs.

In order to create an effective learning environment, I need to create an atmosphere that engages all students in problem solving, critical thinking and other activities that make subject matter meaningful to all students including English language learners. In order to maintain an effective environment for student learning, I will establish and maintain standards for student behavior, plan and implement classroom procedures and routines that support learning for all students. It is of great importance that as an educator, I am knowledgeable of all curriculums and standards. That I am able to organizing subject matter, while using appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and technologies to support all students and make subject matter accessible to everyone.

By drawing on students’ backgrounds, interests, and developmental needs I will be able to establish learning goals for all my students. I will designing short term and long-term plans based on student needs and state/district standards, which will allow me to focus on student learning, while giving me the opportunity to modify instructional plans based on students needs.

As I teach, I will need to assess students learning by collecting and using multiple sources of information, involving all students in assessing their own learning, and use these results to further guide my instruction. These assessment results will allow me to guide my instruction and reflect on my effectiveness in teaching and strategies that I use. This reflection is not limited to the effectiveness of my lessons, but also on my growth as an educator.

Communication with students, parents, and colleagues is very important in developing a rapport, and creating opportunities to grow as a professional educator. Establishing communication with parents can open up opportunities in helping students with their learning development and cooperation at home. Developing as an educator through reflection, professional development, and pursuit of opportunities will enhance my being an effective teacher. The opportunity to grow professionally by working alongside with colleagues, families, and students will only improve my professional practice.

Education is a field, which requires hard work and dedication, but the rewards can be priceless. The rewards to me is not the money that you make, but the satisfaction in a child’s face when he has learned something knew, or when you see in their face that “light switch” turning on. It is the one of the greatest feelings that I get, and one of the best rewards that I can have.
