:: INSTALATION :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Home Page ::::::::::::::::

First, install the applications that CDDOIT uses. CDRECORD & CDPARANOIA are necessary to do basics operations.

CDDOIT use this excellent programs:

cdparanoia: Audio cd ripper

cdrecord: CD'S copy

mkisofs (from Cdrtools): Creation of image data files

mpg123: MP3 Player

bladeenc: MP3 Encoder

sox: Audio converter

at: Scheduler

Ussually this programs are included in the Linux standard distributions (except maybe Bladeenc).

Not to have these programs it does not imply CDDOIT cannot be executed correctly, simply will not have that certain functionality. Logically I recommend load all the programs (they do not occupy too much) for a complete functionality.

Please, read the readme-cddoit in the tar/gz distribution.

These programs you can load from Web sites like:

www.freshmeat.net

www.rpmfind.net

:: Installation Steps :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Please, read the cddoit-readme file for aditional information.

1.

CDDOIT is distributed in a gzip/tar file.

To uncompress the file, run in a terminal: gunzip cddoit.tar.gz ; tar -xvf cddoit.tar

CDDOIT files are:

cddoit

readme-cddoit

CDDOIT now is a unique executable file called cddoit (of course).

2.

Copy the executable file "cddoit" in your Bin ($home/bin) directory or in /usr/local/bin

Be sure 'cddoit' have executable permissions or run: chmod 777 cddoit

3.

With CDDOIT configure the CDRECORD configuration file (/etc/cdrecord.conf). See menu OTHERS, option nº 10.

When executing CDDOIT for the first time, will create a directory called "cddoit" in your default directory ($home/cddoit) and within it will create the directories: CDAUDIO, CDDATA and LOG for temp and log files. These directories stay of automatic form although there are options in the menu of CDDOIT that allow to clean manually.

If these directories erased, when you run CDDOIT they would become again to create.

CDDOIT is designed to use it from a no-Root user. When it needs CDDOIT will request the root password to make the operation and when finishing the operation returns automatically to its user.

The copies to CD-R always are from ROOT (Maximum priority). The reason of this method is avoid any possible disaster in your system using ROOT user. There are several CDDOIT operations in which the root user is not necessary.
