Funeral services for lifelong Dolores resident Joseph Heffernan Ismay will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Summit Ridge Cemetery. Johnny Green will officiate.
Joe was born March 1, 1921, in Cortez to John Harvey and Eleanor (Heffernan) Ismay. He passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 82.
On Jan. 26, 1945, in Aztec, N.M., Joe married Mary Baer. He loved his family and enjoyed leather crafts, the outdoors, and farming and ranching.
Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Ismay of Dolores; his children: Norman Ismay and wife, Barbara, of Vail, S.D.; John Ismay and wife, Bonnie, of Sturgis, S.D.; Jane Curtis and husband, Bill, of Denver; Sherril Ismay of Granby, Colo.; Ron Ismay and wife, Debbie, of Windsor, Colo.; Brent Ismay and wife, Sandy, of Pensacola, Fla.; JoAnne Bangs and husband, Dan, of Pleasant View. He leaves 15 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; as well as his two sisters, and two brothers: Laura Hatch and husband, Sherman, of Montezuma Creek, Utah; Anna Wallace and husband, Ray, of Washington; Robert Ismay of McElmo Trading Post, and Eugene Ismay of Dolores.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home."

Funeral services for John Raymond Ismay, 63, of Farmington, were May 8 at Basin Mortuary Chapel in Farmington with Jack Wheat officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Ismay died May 6 at Hacienda de Salud Nursing home. He was well known in the trading post business, having run one in Cove, Arizona, from 1966 to 1983. He and his wif,e Margaret, owned the Navajo Trading Post. He was a memeber of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Psot 2182, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Eleanor Ismay, and a sister, Louise Bein, he is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Farmington; a son Roy J Ismay, Flagstaff, Arizona; a daughter. Reva Ismay, Farmington; three brothers, Joe of Dolores, and Eugene and Robert, both of Cortez; four sisters, Anna Wallace and Irene Negero, both of Battle Mountain, Nevada. Laura Hatch, Montezuma Creek and Dorothy Davis, Durango; and three aunts, Anna Heffernan, Hallie Ismay and Ruth Fowler."
