Mr. D. Ismay of Carlisle
Mr Derek Ismay, a director of the family business of W. Vasey and Sons, Carlisle, died on Monday after ?? illness. Mr Ismay, a well liked man lived with his family at 77, Croft Road, Carlisle.
He was born in Carlisle but spent many og his early years in Wigton before moving with his family to Penrith where they had a branch furniture shop.
During the second world war Mr Ismay joined the Royal Air Force and served for a time in Cyprus. At the end of the war he came back to Cumberland and rejoined the firm as a salesman.
He devoted most of his life to the family business which had been started by his grandfather. His other interests included golf and he won the WIlliamson Cup at the Carlisle Golf Club and enjoyed other success in the sport.
Mr Ismay also did work for the 1st Border Scouts group and enjoyed a vast range of other outdoor sports including football, of which he was a keen spectator
He married in 1953 and leaves his wife Rachel, two teenage children Donald and Christine and his mother Jean."
