1Probate Consistory Court of Carlisle.
Refer to Probate File John Ismay 1724. In the name of God Amen the Eleventh day of April in the year of our lord 1724. I John Ismay od Woodside in the parish of Westward & County of Cumberland Weaver being very sick & weak in body but of a perfect mind & memory thanks be gvien unto god therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body & knowing that it is apointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this my Last Will & Testament that is to say principally & first of all I give & Recommend my soul into the hands of god that gave it & for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like & decent manner at the discretion of my executor nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of god & as touching such wordly goods wherewith it hath pleased god to bless me in this life I give and dispose in the following manner & form viz Imprimis I give unto my son John Ismay a cubart table & arke. Item I give to Frances Ismay, my daughter the sum of tenn pounds & a feather bed tick (?) & a great Christ. Item to my brother Tho & Brother Geo either a shilling I give. Item I give & bequeath to Margaret Ismay my dearly beloved wife whom I likewise constitute make & ordain my only & sole executor of this my last Will & Testament all and singular my household goods and

chattels of what kind soever by her freely to be possessed & enjoyed so that she pay my debts, legacies & funeral expenses. And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke & disannul all & every former testaments wills & legacies bequests & executors by me many ways before this time named, willed & bequeathed.
Ratifying & Confirming this & no other to be my last will & testament in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day & year above written. Pillion (Pillyen) - pad or cushion attached to the hinder part of an ordinary saddle, to carry a second person, usually a woman
pooke - a/. bag smaller than a sack b/. one of carrying corn of pack saddles Bonds (Letters of Administration) in the names of Margaret Ismay of Woodside widow, George Ismay of Whins, yeoman & Joseph Jefferson of Woodside, yeoman bound in the sum of 100 pounds to produce a true inventory of all the goods of the deceased.
