Approach to Basecamp:
From Huarez to Gate: Arrange for a 4W drive (see Chakraraju Guide Service (s/ 180 roundtrip) for a ride to Pitec and then the Q. Quilcayhuanca gate.
Walk up valley staying to the left until near the base of Andavite. Find grass bridge crossing the river and walk up the Q. Cayesh staying to the right to reach basecamp: (Distance ~8.5miles, 2000ft elevation gain;
basecamp: 14,400ft (S09 27.112' W 077 17.359')
Approach to Moraine Camp:
Walk to nearly the end of the Q. Cayesh, until 150meters below the split in the moraines with a stream running out (from L. Cayesh). Climb the left moraine near the break until nearly the ridge and cross the stream (watch for cairns). Walk upstream 25m and gain the moraine ridge following the left ridge. Continue on the left ridge to where it makes a break in the cliffbad on the left. Follow cairns skirting slightly right walking the shale bands to gain the moraine camp at a high point in the shale band near the glacier.
