Mery Angelo David is married and currently lives in Germany, in the city of Neckargemuend, in the Baden Wuttemberg State. She is a Venezuelan girl, with Italian roots. She has studied Mass Media/Communication and pattern making. She is a freelance worker for a little fashion company. "I like everything where creativity is used, like drawing, painting and sewing."
Mery started customizing about a year ago by surfing the web following the
keyword Barbie® and found the
term
OOAK, custom Barbies®, something she had never heard of before. She has been
a part of CustomDolls onelist for a year. "I really have been enjoying this group
because the members are very friendly, and open to share their tips and secrets
of this art!"
She is a qualified pattern maker and fashion illustrator. Fashion magazines and fashion history books are some of her inspirations. She loves the Mackie face, "I find it suggestive, like the "Mona Lisa" (La Gioconda)!!," she adds.
When asked about her greatest moments as a designer, Mery tells all, "It was
when my first doll "Flamenco", passed the hundred dollar mark on Ebay©! I was
very satisfied that my doll was beautiful enough to others and not only to
me!" Her doll "Flamenco" won "Best Accesories" in one of the CustomDolls
contests.
Mery
has advise for other customizers who want to sell their dolls: "Go to events
and doll shows and present your creations!! Also, make a homepage on the internet and put
it in all the possible search engines and web rings. Use Ebay© or other auction
sites!!"
And what would Mery like to see happen for the future of customizing fashion
dolls? "I would like for this 'art' to get more recognition from the large
public."
Mery has a dream of what she would like to have the ability and skill to
make. She would like to reproduce celebrity gowns. Her first one was Marie
Caroline, based on a paint of Elizabeth Vigée-Lebrun, from 1807.
