Read pp. 81-93 from "Man is the Measure" and answer the following questions:
- p. 82: List four functions of a scientific theory and give your own example from theories you know for two of these functions and briefly describe how it satisfies the function.
- p. 83: Explain what is meant by "fact is richer than diction."
- pp. 83-85: List the six problems one encounters when trying to determine what a "fact" is.
Provide your own original example for three of these.
- pp. 85-88: List the 8 requirements for a good hypothesis with etiher an illuminating example or a brief explanation.
- pp. 90-92: List the 7 non-scientific uses of the word "explanation." What does "explanation" signify in science?
- pp. 92-93: List the misconceptions of what scientific explanation does. Give your own original example for two fo them.
