Physical Science Energy Video Assignment
After
watching the video “Eureka:
Energy and Force” answer the following questions (class notes and your
text may also come in handy):
- In your own words describe
the difference between mass and weight.
What is your mass? What is
your weight?
- Come up with three of your
own examples of work. One with
force in the direction of motion, one with it opposite and one
perpendicular. Give values for the
forces, distances and works.
- How is work related to
energy?
- What is kinetic energy in
words? Come up with your own example of kinetic energy and calculate it.
- What is potential
energy? Come up with your own
example of potential energy and calculate it.
- BONUS: use the fact that when there is no work being done on
an object except by basic forces the change in kinetic energy and
potential energy add to zero to find the speed with which a ball dropped
from 25m will hit the ground. How
would this change if the ball swung down 25m in height on a rope? Or, slid
down a frictionless surface a total drop of 25m in height?
