Resource List

CCSJ is continuing to work on putting together resources on social and economic justice issues to be made available to schools and members of the community and (hopefully) to be housed at the Morgantown Public Library. Some funds have been raised to pay for materials. The group is developing a list of resources we would like to make available in the community. If you would like to work on this, contact Judy Cohen (292-0072) or Jacqueline Moseley (296-1415) . A list of proposed resources will be posted shortly on our website or can be obtained directly from Judy. Please send ideas for additions to Judy.

Economic Justice

A committee has been meeting to discuss some issues of economic inequality and economic justice in the Morgantown area. If you want to know more, contact Paul Becker (292-2983 ) or Tim Hairston (292-0601).

City Human Rights Commission

We are continuing to work with Teresa Miller to find people who are willing to serve on the City Human Rights Commission. Please contact Emily Spieler (293-7690), Barb Howe (293-2339 ext. 1155) or Teresa Miller 598-2866 if you are interested in helping out. We are hoping that the city commission will work on a hate crimes ordinance, as well as other issues relating to race, sex, national origin, sexual orientation and disability, including disability access. We expect to work with WVU's Council on Sexual Orientation, as well as other groups, in attempting to have a hate crimes ordinance passed in Morgantown. As you may know, the amendment to add disability and sexual orientation to the state hate crimes statute once again failed in the legislature.

Regional Jail

Anyone who would like to work on issues concerning the regional jail please contact Mike Sharley at 292-6075.

Events

The Steering Committee continues to meet monthly and will be planning events for the Fall over the summer. If you have any ideas, requests, concerns or whatever, please contact Emily Spieler 293-7690, or Barb Howe (293-2339 ext. 1155).

PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays)

The local group has formed and is meeting on third Sunday of each month, 1-3 pm, in the basement of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. PFLAG exists for mutual support among both GLBTQ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and those questioning) people and those who care about them. It is a place where both GLBTQ people and those close to them can address the issues they face and their feelings about these issues, safely and in confidence. Contact person is Judy Cohen
( 292 0072).
