Resource List

A group is meeting to develop a resource lending library of social and economic justice materials (books for adults and children, videos, etc.) We are hoping that these resources will find a home in the Morgantown public library and will be available to schools, teachers, churches and community groups as well as individuals. If you’re interested in helping, or have suggestions about resources, contact Judy Cohen (292-0072) or Jacqueline Moseley (296-1415).

Economic Justice

A group has been formed to investigate and discuss work on issues of economic justice and inequality. If you want to know more, contact Paul Becker (292-2983) or Tim Hairston (292-0601).

City Human Rights Commission

We are continuing to work on the City Human Rights Commissionand we are talking with COSO (Council on Sexual Orientation) about joint work. If you are interested, contact Barb Howe (293-2339 ext. 1155) or Emily Spieler (293-7690).

Regional Jail

Last year CCSJ sponsored a town meeting focusing on the new North Central Regional Jail. Now that the regional jail has been operating for seven months, CCSJ feels that it is time to go back and reexamine the issues surrounding the jail and hold another town meeting. There have been allegations from inmates, police officers, lawyers, prosecutors, and judges that the regional jail is not accommodating the needs of the inmates. Allegedly, the inmates are not provided with work release, community service opportunities, drug rehabilitation, or even opportunities to meet with family and counsel. If you are interested in meeting to organize another town meeting on the regional jail issue, please contact Michael Sharley at 292-6075.

PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays)

A PFLAG group (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), has begun meeting in Morgantown, third Sunday of each month, 1-3 pm, in the basement of the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship. Next meeting is Sunday March 17. PFLAG exists for mutual support among both GLBTQ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and those questioning) people and those who care about them. It is a place where both GLBTQ people and those close to them can address the issues they face and their feelings about these issues, safely and in confidence. Contact person is Judy Cohen ( 292 0072).
