| Jorge Luis Borges's writing presents many different themes some of which are pointed out here: El Sur, 1944 . How the supernatural affects man. In this story a man is unsure of whether he is dying or alive. This man is actually having visions as he is dying. He has supernatural visions of himself being moved and even killed in the end. El Otro, 1970 . People are split in two personalities. In this story Borges appears sitting on a bench and next to him sitting on the bench was him when he was much younger. In other words it is as if they were two personalities within him: the young Borges, naive and hopeful, and the older Borges with his life winding down and very wise. La Muerte y la Brujula, 1944 . Mysterious crimes can be solved in logical ways. In this story the detective Eric Lonrrot solves a case of a serial killer by logically figuring out his next move each time. By using shapes and a biblical reference Lonrrot is waiting for the killer at the next murdering site. |
