| Borges's style is quite interesting. Borges is basically all about Magical Realism as has been explained thoroughly in other pages of this website. Of course he loves to include magical realism in his writing in his culture and even in his life. He loved to put reality and fantasy side by side as if the fantasy was part of that reality. It is a wonderful thing but there is more to his style and his writing than just magical realism of course. Borges is well known for being a mysterious and suspenseful writer. Like in La Muerte y La Brujula which one of Borges's mysteries. In this mystery Borges writes about a detective named Eric Lonnrot who must solve a mystery regarding a serial killer. This story is very suspenseful it really keeps the reader on the edge of his seat and it keeps the reader guessing. Once a reader starts this story he must finish it or the suspense will kill him. His writing is also known to be rather intriguing and vague leaving much to the imagination of the reader he leaves the reader to decide for himself what exactly has happened and how. Borges likes to leave cliff hangers where the reader must make up his own ending. This is not necessarily the most popular style of writing but that may be what makes it great. Borges was a literary and scholarly genius so part of his writing style is to allude to foreign and distinguished ideas, places or things. One must have a good background of knowledge before reading Borges's works. For instance when he alludes to the tettragrammaton which are the four letters in Gods name which cannot be pronounced "JHVH". But in the end Borges's main objective is to entertain and delight the reader. |
