What Lies Beneath

Starring: Harrison Ford & Michelle Pfeiffer

There isn't much to say about this movie. That may be a good thing or a bad thing. It is mostly a bad
thing because the way I felt after it was over just left me without much of an opinion. You see, the movie
premises about a wife that finds out about her husband's darkest secret through some divine ghost-like
intervention can be a formula for an exciting film. In this case it's not and this is no Rebecca (please rent
this classic instead), the whole story misses an element of the formula that is the "do I care?". The film goes from happy couple intrigued about the neighbors life, a subplot that only ends up being
a tease, to a very unhappy couple where the wife begins investigating if her husband is a murderer....,
and so much for a plot. This tired genre with added predictable actions scenes where the villain, in this case
Ford's character, never dies until he's really, but really dead. How many Hollywood movies do we have to
endure where all villains are like supermen who wake up from death to keep on harassing their victims....,
how real is that? (comes to mind "Fatal Attraction" which I thought missed the mark when Glenn Close
jumped out of the bath tub (after being drowned to death) all the sudden and tried again to attack Michael
Douglas with a knife....come on!!!).

The performances are quite good, especially lovely Michelle Pfeiffer. As for Harrison Ford, he's quite
believable, but his character is underwritten and not quite easy to understand where he really comes
from or maybe I just lost interest in what really lied beneath his character and the whole story.
What really lied beneath this story was a cheap rug with lots of dust.
