Round & round it goeswhere it stopped? Nobody knows!
and - who got that brass ring, anyways? Or, is it still out there???

1972 - 1978
Hadji was the answer (TV trivia), and that got us all rolling about. Of course, in the middle of the night, riding in an old converted school bus named Irene back from somewhere in New York state (the equipment in the back half and us crammed in the front), there was a pretty good chance wed laugh at just about anything!

Irene took us near and far around 5 or 6 states - five, six, and seven night a week - for a couple of years until she was ready to retire. Then it became Rosies jobshe was a plain vanilla box truck with a red cab, and she hauled the equipment the musicians had to fend for themselves.

Being a cover band on the Dial Tone circuit was getting pretty old after a year or so, and since Ann Marie had some nice stuff written we began to create some originals based on these. Old Man of the Sea came first, and we recorded it when we did a cover song demo.
Soon, we had another 3 tunes (Carousel, Dance for the Blind both Ann Maries, and Order, a Gary Fulton composition) and we went into a recording studio and did all 4 originals.
Brandy, Lay It On The Line, and Thoughts each took shape over the next several years; you hear them here recorded live.

   <
Except for bass players, we remained the same four (Ann Marie, Gary, Tom, and myshelf) after I came on board in '73, until '78. At some point, Nick threw in with us, doubling on lead vocals and keyboards - so we were six-piece.
We were signed by two different recording companies during this period: "ArmTrak Records", and  "Terry Phillips, Inc.", both of N.Y.C. - and both exercises in frustration... they wanted some "commercial" product, and
we wanted to stretch our creative limbs, interested in creating music that was challenging to us and any listener, instead.>

    1978, 1979
The changing winds of time had done their thing, and Canyon was now a four-piece band : Tom & Gary Fulton (the founders), Nick Stargu, and Joe Zampano. Come, Please Believe Me, Take Your Time, and Life In A Heap were recorded during this period.

    1979 1982
Back to a five-piece lineup, and back in the Studio to record a single: Busy b/w Baby, Its You (the ol cover nugget). The single didnt materialize cause Poughkeepsie, N.Y.s WPDH used Busy on its local compilation album.

    1983
A Hartford songwriter/magician (!) named Barton Alexander enlisted Canyon to help compose and realize a made-for-video production of his Illusions In The Wind, an Entertainment Phenomenon combining magic and music. Illusion     In The Wind (Pt.s 1 & 2), Tell Me Why, and You Dont Love Me come from this excursion.

So it was on our Carouselthe horses came and went, but the music NEVER stopped...so, neither has the Carousel.

                                                          Who got the brass ring?

                                                            Is it still out there?

                                                         The answer is still Hadji!
