Jia Qinglin

Jia Qinglin, 62, joined the party in 1959.  From 1985-1996, he was a legislator in the Fujian party congress and  first CPC secretary of PLA Fujian Provincial Military Area Command,  until he ultimately became governor of Fujian province.

Appointed member, Standing Committee member, and deputy secretary, of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and vice mayor and acting mayor of Beijing, Oct. 1996; director of Beijing Greening Committee, Feb. 1997.

Made mayor of Beijing, Feb. 1997-Feb. 1999; secretary of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Aug. 1997; member of Political Bureau of 15th CPC Central Committee, 1997.

Elected first deputy director, and director, October 1998, of Beijing Planning and Construction Committee; president of Chinese Association of Mayors; and first secretary of CPC Committee of Beijing Garrison, 1997.

Delegate to 11th to 13th CPC National Congresses; member of 14th and 15th Central Committees.  He is also a member of the National People's Congress.
