How
old do I have to be to join ?
You need to be at
least 13 years old to join the ACF and you can stay until you are 18 years
and 9 months. There is plenty of time to aspire to greatness.
What
commitment is there once I join ?
One answer : None..
Once you have
joined, you can leave whenever you want. Although I doubt you will want
to as when you see what you'd miss. All you will be committed to is return
all kit which has been issued to you when you leave.
What
Uniform will I receive?
You will get a complete
set of uniform once you have joined. All you have to do is get yourself
a serviceable pair of boots. Most Army surplus stores have these. For C
Coy Buckshees in Guisborough and Middlesbrough are a good starting place.
(Ask your DC about the Cadet Discount Card.)
What's
it cost ?
The joining cost vary
by detachment, but most are around £5.
Some detachments charge
subscriptions (In C Coy the price is approx. 25p a night max.)
You will have to pay
for the weekend camps (Cost of food only.) which come to around a fiver,
and with a 14 day annual camp for less than £40. I dare any one to
beat that or say that's too expensive.
How
Many Camps A Year ?
There will be a minimum
of 3 Company Weekends, 1 Annual Camp, an average of 2 detachment weekends.
These do not include
Shooting weekends, Colts Canter, Competitions.
A safe bet is that
you could be away one weekend a month on average.
I
want to join the Army, does this help me ?
A well qualified senior
cadet who leaves the ACF to join the armed forces has a solid foundation
of military skills and knowledge which is a huge benefit for young soldiers.
The young soldier already has developed skills of Skill at arms, drill,
map and compass, leadership and shooting; Not to mention self discipline
and other military skills. Many have found that these skills make the first
few months a lot easier.
