We began the course by looking at technology. Some people might reasonably say this is a practical application of science. We end the term by looking at how humanity struggled not only to control the world through the use of technology, but also how it has striven to understand the universe.
As we close out the semester maritime technology will seen as a major factor for the spread of European influences around the world. The use of science and technology which might be seen as joining together at thi stime has now become part of Western way of life
This topic is a good one to end our course. Science has become tremendously important in the modern world. This is even one way that "modern" has been defined. Specific human experiences and knowledge have certainly changed through time, but we must ask ourselves if or to what extent human nature has changed since the formation of civilization. Do we today react to social, political, or cultural developments in the same ways that our ancestors did? Can we then perhaps learn from human history?
