Abdul Karim and Queen Victoria

Shown here at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, Queen Victoria had two Indian servants whom she employed as secretaries. One was Abdul Karin, shown here with the Queen. Victoria was the first British ruler to show a personal interest in the Empire, and, though she never went to India, she was proclaimed Empress of India in 1876.
