Soviet Invasion of Czechoslovakia: 1968


The new divisions of Europe and the resulting blocs of political power were not always stable. Under Alexander Dubeck, the new Communist Party secretary of Czechoslovakia, an attempt to liberalize Communist rule failed when the Soviet government sent in troops and crushed the movement. Here we see a Soviet tank in the streets of Prague on 21 August 1968.
