Questions And Answers

Q. What is the difference between IP & TCP?

A.  IP is connection-less protocol, responsible for network addressing & routing through an internetwork. TCP is a connection-oriented protocol used at the Transport Layer to create virtual circuits and rebuild a data stream from a transmitting host to a receiving host using a reliable session.

Q. On what does the IP standard access-list base the filtering of networks?

A. The source IP address. Standard IP access-list albeit easy to configure, are limited and not used much in a production network because they only filter based on the source address found in an IP header.

Q. What are the two different types of Frame-Relay subinterface?

A. Point-to-Point or Multipoint.

Q. Where is a packet defined in the OSI model?

A. The Network Layer,or Layer3 of the OSI model.

Q. What is the default encapsulation used on the serial links with Ciso routers?

A. High-Level Data Link Control(HDLC),This is a proprietary version of HDLC PPP uses a version of HDLC created by the ISO that is not proprietary. That is the reason most PPP encapsulation work between disparate routers.

Q. What Access-List number range supports IP standard access list?

A. IP Standard access-list use the numbers 1-99 or expanded range is 1300 and 1999.

Q. Which layer of the OSI is responsible for framing packets on a LAN?

A. The Data-Link Layer It encapsulates with control information, front & back to be sent out on a local network, not a remote network.

Q. If you wanted to copy your router's IOS to a backup host,What command should you use?

A. Router# copy flash tftp

This command will copy the contents of flash to a tftp host.

Q. What Access-List number range supports IP extended access list?

A. IP Extended access-list use the numbers from 100 to 199 or expanded range uses numbers form 2000 to 2699.

Q. On what does the IP extended access-list base the filtering of networks?

A. Extended access-list filter based on source IP address, destination IP address, Network layer protocol field, and Transport layer protocol field.

Q. Which command is used to set an enable secret password on a router as 'mypass' ?

A.  Router(config)#enable secret mypass

Q. PPP can work with Asynchronous & Synchronous networks?(True/False).

A. True.

Q. What layer of the OSI model is responsible for logical addressing on an internetwork & routing packets through an internetwork?

A. The Network Layer.

Q. In what subnet broadcast address is the host 172.16.10.30 255.255.255.128 located?

A. 172.16.30.127

Q. What protocol in the IP stack is used to find a hardware address from a known IP address?

A. Address Resolution Protocol (ARP).

Q. What ISDN protocol specifies switching?

A.  Q-series
     Q.921-Link Access Procedure on the D channel(LAPD)
.
     Q.931-ISDN network layer.

Q. What does Frame-Relay use to identify a PVC?

A. Data-Link Connection Identifier (DLCI)

Q. What protocol is used at the Data-Link layer & provides Handshaking & Authentication for PPP?

A. Link Control Protocol (LCP).

Q. What is the Metric used by IGRP by default?

A. Bandwidth and Delay of the link.

Q. What command do you enter to go from user mode to privileged mode?

A. Enable
