I think most of the moms have found it difficult to meet mommy friends and playmates for their little ones, especially toddlers.
And these are the moms that were in mind when the group CCMommies was created.
When my family moved to the Corpus Christi area, I was a stay at home mom of a 13month old little girl who was my world.
It seems once my daughter was born, I lost touch with alot of my friends. They were all still single and much more interested in clubbing and parties than breastfeeding and diapers. It wasn't just an overnight thing, who wants to go dancing with a pregnant woman. lol And my being pregnant, I didn't wanna go to smoke-filled clubs and bars either.
So slowly over the time while I was pregnant and once my daughter was born, my friends and I drifted apart more and more.
For the first year of my daughter's life, I found myself very lonely as my loving husband was working so many hours that it seemed like he was only coming home to eat, shower, and sleep.
Then we moved to Corpus Christi where I knew noone but my husband and mother in law.
I did not know how to go about meeting other moms and I learned from experience that single gals in their twenties weren't all that interested in hanging out with a toddler. I turned to the internet where I found there were alot of women like me.
Eventually CCMommies was formed.
CCMommies was created to give moms a place to get to know other moms and find friends for both themselves and thier little ones. Originally we had set weekly playdates, but as the group has grown to 50+ moms, it is a little difficult to expect everyone to attend. It would also be a little hectic with that many moms and children! But many members often plan playdates in their homes or in public places inviting any of our members who would like to join. And there are many members who have found good friends in our group and have small playdates amongst themselves. For those who are new to the group and would not feel comfortable meeting strangers privately for playdates, there are public playdates and library storytimes that are great for first time meetings..
I think alot of the moms are more spur of the moment, as it's sometimes difficult to follow through with plans with babies and toddlers who seem to have plans of their own. So often members will throw out an idea for that same afternoon! Like "hey, anyone want to go to such and such park" or "how about lunch at McD's".
Our calendar may not always be full of planned playdates but we are not exactly a regular "playgroup" either. CCMommies is a group full of regular everyday moms who are looking for fun and friends in the Corpus Christi area. There are some awesome ladies in this group. Full of fun, friendship, and support.
If you are looking for a small playgroup that meets once a week at a set time, CCMommies isn't the place. BUT, who knows, you may find a few members who would love to form such a playgroup with you. Only way to find out is to join, participate, and get to know others.
You may find you love it, you may not. Only way to know for sure is if you take a chance.
