What is the CCIDL?

The Coast-to-Coast Internet Dynasty League (CCIDL) is an 8-team baseball simulation league based upon the Dynasty computer and board games distributed by Design Depot, Inc. CCIDL is an email league consisting of owner/managers from Colorado, Texas, Florida, and Rhode Island currently. The league was started by Brad McMillan in the summer of 1998 (originally called the Southern Mississippi Internet Dynasty League).

How is the CCIDL organized?

The CCIDL is split into two 4-team divisions (Mississippi East and Mississippi West). The franchises currently in the Mississippi East division are: Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, and the New York Yankees. The Mississippi West division teams are: Albuquerque Knights (Astros), Anaheim Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Seattle Cybermen (Mariners). As per Dynasty rules for an 8-team league, two additional teams are available for CCIDL owner/managers to draft from. These two teams are the San Diego Padres and Cleveland Indians.

CCIDL League Rules

Who are the league officers?

League Commissioner: Brad McMillan
Co-Commisioner: Rick Henderson
Trade Committee: Brad McMillan, Rick Henderson, & Ed Kelly
Website Creator/Maintenance: Brad McMillan (special thanks to Jean-Guy Lvesque for the original SMIDL & CCIDL websites)

What are the league rules?

1) All owners must have the board game version of Dynasty, the computer version of Dynasty, or be willing to buy either game (or work something out with the commissioner).

2) All owners must be willing to commit to playing a full season.

3) All owners must be willing to finish a scheduled series within a week-and-a-half of that series being announced. If the home manager does not play his/her series in that time frame, the Commissioner will play the series instead (remember: there's no crying in baseball!).

4) All owners MUST have email capabilities and having internet access is preferable.

5) The current league is an email league conducted through the use of "remote manager forms" explained below. The league will move towards internet face-to-face in the future, so owners must be willing to eventually upgrade their computer systems to accommodate this in the future.

6) Honesty is a league requirement. Anyone caught cheating will be thrown out of the league.

7) Trades are supervised by the Trade Committee. All trades must be submitted to the league commissioner who will forward the trade information to the other members of the committee. Two out of three members of the Committee must give the OK to the trade for it to go forward. If approved, the trade will be announced to all members of the league (and also in the next weekly newsletter) and the trade becomes official one week from the announcement. During that week period, either party may back out of the trade or field offers from other owners. After that week period, the trade is final and cannot be altered.

8) All owners should give full statistics of their games to the commissioner and/or league statistician for archiving.

9) Logistical rules: The DH rule is in effect in the CCIDL. Pitchers pitching on 3 days rest cannot pitch more than 6 innings in that start. All owners must rest their starting catchers for a total of 8 games during the season. Pitcher warmup will not be required. Multiply player limits by .3 (round up) in order to determine how many at-bats vs. a side that a limited use player has (a player MUST have at least 20 ABs vs. a side BEFORE multiplying to start a game or be used as a pinch-hitter). Spot starts are divided by three and rounded up. In postseason play, multiply a player's use rating/spot starts by .07 to determine the maximum number of at-bats/spot starts that player is entitled to play during the entire postseason. Player rust rules are not used. All other Dynasty League rules are enforced as is.

10) Draft rules: Players picked during the salaried player part of the draft are drawn from each real-life team's organizational system at the time of the following year's published 40-man spring training rosters (early February). Players in the minor league phase of the draft must be carded and on one of the real-life team's 40-man rosters. The prospect pool during the next phase of the draft is similar to the salaried player pool, but prospects can't be carded (either currently or in the past).

11) Postseason play should be conducted live, if at all possible (using one of the various chat features available); the home manager runs the game on their computer, while the visiting manager gives managerial instructions over the chat feature.

12) Have fun! Arguments should be relegated to the Commissioner to solve. Verbal abuse will not be tolerated between owners (no flaming, please!).

How do you play in this league?

First and foremost, we use the Dynasty League rules for running our league. The section in the rulebook detailing roster information, drafting, etc. is my guide for organization. Where we differ from the official Dynasty League rules is in how we draft (given that we can't conduct drafts face-to-face) and how we run games. We play a 48-game season. As far as games are concerned, owners play their home series games (home series managers play both teams) and away series are played by whichever other owner is at home for that series. All owner/managers come up with "remote manager forms" detailing lineups, pitching changes, and managerial quirks (such as, "Replace Gary Sheffield in LF with Richard Hidalgo if I'm leading after seven innings."). Samples of these remote manager forms are listed under the team headings on the website.

Drafting is conducted via email. Owners submit a slate of bids to the commissioner for sorting. The owner who puts in the top bid gets the first pick, the owner who put in the second highest bid gets the second bid, etc. The draft list is submitted to all eight owners, and the draft start time is set once all owners have submitted their bids. Bids are announced sequentially via email. Owners have 24 hours to submit their picks to the commissioner when their bid has been announced (vacations, emergencies, etc., are obviously exceptions but the commissioner should be informed as soon as it is possible).
