The Future Farmers of America is a national organization of farm boys who are enrolled in high school vocational agriculture courses. There are active organizations in each of the forty-eight states, Porto Rico and the Hawaiian Islands. The purpose of this organization is to aid cooperation and teach farm practices that will make farming a more profitable and enjoyable occupation.
The fifth annual Father and Son Banquet was given February 22. Talks were made on the progress and future possibilities of Vocational Agriculture in high schools. The banquet was the most outstanding event of the Calhoun chapter this year.
Some of the other events in which the F. F. A. members participate are:
One member of the Calhoun chapter enters the regional public speaking contest.
A representative is sent each year to the National Livestock Exposition
at Kansas City, Missouri. This year Ernest Weaver represented the local
chapter. Regional basketball tournaments and field days are athletic events
in which the boys take part. At these events the F. F. A. members have
the privilege of meeting and making friends with boys from other schools.
Judging contests including poultry, livestock, horses, dairy cows and many
others, in which the Calhoun boys have competed for seven years. Although
no outstanding recognition has been obtained, the boys who competed in
those contests have received much benefit from the experience.
