About the Festival

Young singers interested in enjoying and developing their skills in musicianship will come together for an exciting week.  They will attend inspiring, interactive sessions at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.  Sessions will include:

 

·              Vocal Artistry – In a group setting, students will learn healthy vocal habits, good tone production, and proper vowel production.

 

·              Sight Singing – Through a Kodaly/Orff based approach, students will learn/strengthen their sight singing abilities.

 

·              Musicanship through Movement – Participants experience a wide variety of musician skills through Orff/Weikert based movement education.

 

·              Music Theory – Students will experience aspects of music history and theory through interactive approach based on Orff-Schulwerk, Kodaly, and Dalcroze philosophies.

 

·              Choral Techniques – Choir members will explore a variety of choral literature including sacred, secular, and ethnic music in an Orff/Kodaly based rehearsal.

 

The week will culminate with a closing concert shared by the Festival Choir and members of the Cincinnati Children’s Choir.

 

 

 

Goals of the Festival

·        To offer an opportunity to learn and experience musical excellence

·        To offer a venue to create, socialize, learn, and perform with other talented young musicians 

·        To expose the singers to a variety of superb choral literature including sacred, secular, and ethnic music

·        To educate children of any background

·        To strengthen self-esteem in all who participate

 

 

Announcing David kisor

The 2004 festival participants will have the extraordinary opportunity of working with local composer, David Kisor, on a commissioned piece.  Mr. Kisor will be in residence throughout the week working with small groups and in rehearsals.  During the week, festival participants will create portions of the piece, directly influencing the composition and witnessing a piece of music “come to life.”

 

Eligibility and Participation Details

 

All students must be teacher recommended or auditioned and have unchanged voices.

·        All students must be between the ages of 9 (third grade) and 15 (tenth grade).

·        Tuition is $110 for the week.  Scholarships are available based on economic need and audition.

·        Festival will be held on the campus of the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.  Sessions will run from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Saturday TBA.

·        Registration deadline is July 10, 2004

·        Registration is limited and awarded on a first come-first served basis to eligible singers
