He grew up attending the Church of Christ at Albia, Iowa under Evangelist Dewey Lalk. He has preached and taught adult Sunday school classes his entire adult life, except for brief intervals. He began preaching while a teenager at the Albia church with instruction on sermon preparation, delivery, and doctrine under Evangelist Lalk.

David makes no claims of college degrees. He has a very extensive knowledge of the Bible and a fervent desire to always learn more of the scriptures, this has been a life long pursuit. He does not consider himself an Evangelist, rather a Brother in Christ, one who ministers to others, preaching and doing what he can for his Lord Jesus. His ministry has continued from 1981 until present, with a brief period of about 3-4 years in which he did not preach at the Hillsboro Church, returning after his retirement from twenty eight years at the Rockwell International plant in Fairfield.

David prefers to be just called Dave or Brother Dave, never Reverend Dave as he feels this title belongs to God alone with no man deserving or worthy of such a title.
