My name is Barbara Young, and I conduct evaluations for students in grades 7 through 12, including evaluations for the PHAA diploma. A former public school English teacher, I now homeschool my own three boys, ages 9, 7, and 4. In my spare(?) time, I also teach an Advanced Placement English class to homeschooled high schoolers via the Internet. As a homeschooling parent, I see writing evaluations as an opportunity to be an ambassador to the public school system. 

When evaluating portfolios, I like to see reading lists and the titles of all textbooks. As an English teacher, I like to see lots of writing, complete with rough drafts. Likewise, work done in other subjects should be corrected when applicable. (I don't want to check all of your math problems to see if they are correct.) Unchecked work leaves me guessing whether learning actually took place.
