swimming in paperwork

Spent two weekends in August at home, working on my dissertation and med school applications and spending time with my flatmates.

Emma, me, and Petra with Simon in back

At one point Simon dressed up in his snowboard gear...

Psi dressed to impress, ready for boarding

And then I tried on his boots...

Both feet fit in one of Simon's boots

Went to see the movie "Rabbit-Proof Fence" with Pauline. All about three aboriginal girls in Australia who were taken away from their mother because they were half-castes and she was full aboriginal. Put in a school to learn how to be white. They escape and follow the rabbit-proof fence home to their mother, escaping trackers, starvation, and dehydration. Quite a feat for young girls to walk 1500 km on their own, and survive. They made it, and as old women walked that route again. Unfortunately, their own children were taken away from them for being half-castes, and have not seen their mothers since. August 23 had dinner with Andre Meeks, the former District 9080 Governor, and his family.

Played piano and sang show-tunes with Andrew. I even got to play his grandson's Fender Telecaster (very, very expensive electric guitar)! Then out to Bennu with the girls minus Maureen. August 27 saw the Marti Friedlander photo exhibit at the Dunedin Art Gallery, co-hosted by the Dunedin East and Dunedin Central Rotary clubs.
