Outlook Express

This page provides help related to dealing with Microsoft Outlook Express.

NOTE: In the interest of jargon compliance, please be aware there is another Microsoft product called Outlook. Microsoft Outlook is a very sophisticated Personal Information Manager (PIM) that is part of Microsoft Office, while Microsoft Outlook Express is the email software provided with Microsoft Windows. Outlook Express does not have anywhere near the features Outlook has, and speaking of one, when you mean the other, can cause all kinds of confusion. If you mean Outlook Express, please say , or OE. Microsoft Outlook is not the same thing.

Problem: Microsoft Outlook Express refuses to open, or save attachments.

My Explanation: Microsoft is trying to protect you from yourself by disabling those features that may cause harm. In other words, to protect you from their security holes, they disable the features viruses use to exploit those holes.

My Solution: Mozilla Thunderbird, and Firefox

Caveat: Thunderbird, and Firefox are just as powerful for their respective purposes as Outlook Express (OE), and Intenet Explorer (IE, or MSIE), but are not as heavily integrated into Windows, and hence don't give potential exploits access to the operating system.
