The Third Day
The final walk to the top
This castle truly sits at the top of the hill and the view surrounding it includes mountainous terrain, running streams and views of the distant lands that will take your breath away.  It's no wonder that this location was picked for the serenity and isolation that it offers.

Looking at  our tickets, we realized we had quite a bit of time before our tour was scheduled to start.  The tours are arranged according to time and language.  We walked to the castle entrance to confirm our start time.  On the way up we passed a place that looked like the setup you would see in an amusement park staged for long lines, complete with the metal rails.  Behind that there were a few benches to sit down on to wait, rest, etc.  We sat down and opened up lunch consisting of ham sandwiches on fresh rolls with cucumber and little spread of butter.  We washed it down with cold bottled water.  It was totally and completely delicious.
After finishing lunch, we attempted to get some pictures of the entire castle.  The distance from the castle was perfect but the light of day behind it was too bright, so most of the pictures came out a lot darker than expected.  This was about the best of the bunch.
Just hanging out
Back up to the top, there was a tiny gift shop at the entrance in which I purchased two guidebooks and a handful of picturesque post cards.  Looking across to the hills and beyond and then down to the ravine below, I wondered how many bodies could have been tossed over the wall in days gone by without ever being discovered.  They were morbid thoughts to be sure, but it really was a long drop to the bottom from the protective walls seen here.
Despite these thoughts, the scenery of the fields and lands surrounding the castle was spectacular to see.  With the weather being so clear, we could see for miles and miles.  Being at somewhat of a tree level and knowing this was a small piece of the view offered from just outside of the castle, I could hardly wait to see what could be seen from the inside of the castle.
The scenery... oh, so, breathtaking!
Front view of the main entrance
Our tour time was slowly approaching so we headed towards the main entrance seen here on the left.  Through the arched entrance we found ourselves in the lower courtyard and waited with the rest of the tourists for our number to come up.
