The Third Day
Checking out the scenery
Today looked very promising.  The weather gods were smiling upon us once more and so we set out beneath blue skies and cool weather for Neuschwanstein Castle.  It was a beautiful day for a drive.  Taking a combination of autobahn and back roads through small villages was typical of the Germany I remembered as a child.  The scenery was spectacular and we sped along the roads in quiet contemplation of the views around us.
An open field
A short bit into the trip we pulled over to the side of the road at a small rest stop to stretch our legs and in my case, to wake me up a little bit.  Car rides put me to sleep.  The steady hum of the motor and gentle bumps here and there are enough to rock me into temporary dreamland.
Stream view
Looking back at the field here towards the road, the shaded areas were chilly.  There was this lovely stream bubbling right alongside and it was very peaceful and pretty.  Across the stream was a house in the middle of a large field.  The nearest town was a short drive away and peace and calm was what was left here.  The sounds of birds twittering and of water gently rolling along were all that met the silence of the day.
hospital
Across the main road from where we parked, there was this building that looked like a giant farmhouse.  Judging from all the windows and levels it had, that idea was quickly dismissed.  We found signs on the side road leading up to the building stating it was a hospital and so we ventured across the street to get a closer look.
Last look
There were a few parked cars but no one to be seen anywhere.  It was kind of odd to have a hospital in the middle of countryside with no support to be seen in the local area.  It was still charmy, regardless of that fact.  We finished up with a few more area shots and headed back across the road to the car where we pulled back onto the road and continued our trip.
First view
Shortly afterwards, we saw Neuschwanstein Castle looming larger than life in the distance.  The main turret rose above all else and presented the silhouette so reminiscent of Cinderella's Castle in Disneyland. Despite all the pictures I had ever seen of this place it was breathtaking to see all in that single moment and I couldn't wait to get a closer look.
